Anthony Johnson

As a veteran educator with over a decade of experience, I believe that good discipline and effective learning occur best in a democratic, instructional setting. I love working and collaborating with students, colleagues, and various educational stakeholders in order to make impactful decisions that affect positive change. It is the hope that I will be able to continue to serve students of various communities so that they may gather new and in-depth knowledge about current and trending literacy practices.

While working for the School Board of Volusia County, I was afforded the opportunity to work and acquire new skills that met the needs of students in Grades K-6. In this capacity, I have been able to provide leadership and instruction within the school setting and assist in changing the lives and outcomes of those left with little opportunity to excel or succeed. I have also assisted students in middle and high school for the expansion of my pedagogical practices at various grade levels.

After my transition into higher education at Bethune-Cookman University, I have had the opportunity to broaden my experiences within the field of education. While working as an instructor within the College of Education, my primary duties have included the following: teaching core reading classes for pre-service teachers majoring in Elementary Education, Secondary Education, and Exceptional Student Education, supervising student teacher candidates, organizing community literacy and writing programs, supervising student organizations, overseeing reading assessment and differentiation programs at local elementary schools, and presenting at literacy symposiums.

I have recently completed formal educational training at NOVA Southeastern University, and have obtained a Doctorate of Education degree. I am currently a Regional Consultant for Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. My new career requires me to travel to various school districts to collaborate with classroom teachers in effectively utilizing curricular materials that provide students with extra support in reading.

I am extremely excited about being a member of the Valencia College family.
