Eric Wright

Adjunct Instructor

Professor Wright is a graduate of the University of California at Los Angeles with degrees in Music (B.A.) and African Area Studies (M.A.) After pursuing studies towards an advanced degree in History, he worked for the African Studies Association before earning a Master's Degree in Music from the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University.

He has taught courses in Humanities and History at Valencia College since 2004. He has also taught in the Music Department at Bethune-Cookman University and the Africana Studies Program at UCF with occasional courses at Kaplan University, Columbia College, and Seminole State College.

His current academic interests focus on social memory and the evolution of African American culture and music. He has published articles on trumpet pedagogy and presented papers and lectures on African American music and culture at UCF and the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH).

In addition to teaching at Valencia College, he remains active as a musical performer in Central Florida. He has toured and performed all around the world in a variety musical settings with orchestras, jazz bands, and salsa bands.
