Ilyse Kusnetz

Ph.D.

Dr. Ilyse Kusnetz received her BA in English and Creative Writing from the University of New Mexico, her MA in Creative Writing from Syracuse University, and her Ph.D. from the University of Edinburgh in Contemporary Feminist and Post-Colonial British Literature. She has been a professor at Valencia Community College, Winter Park Campus since 2001and teaches English and Creative Writing. She advises the Winter Park Campus literary magazine, Mosaic, coordinates Florida Writers Circuit readings at Valencia, and works closely with both the Visions and Voices Distinguished Artist Series at Valencia and the Kerouac Project of Orlando. She currently serves as Campus Senate Vice-President for Winter Park.

Dr. Kusnetz's poetry has been published in journals such as Crazyhorse, Poetry Review, Poet Lore, the Atlanta Review, the Cimarron Review, Stone Canoe and Rattle, and her work has been broadcast on BBC Radio Scotland and NPR-WMFE. Her chapbook, The Gravity of Falling, was published in 2006, and she has been a finalist for both the Wick Poetry Prize and the Autumn House Poetry Prize. She has also written reviews and features for The Scotsman, Scotland on Sunday, The New Statesman, the Orlando Sentinel and Islands magazine.

She currently holds the Sue Luzadder Chair in Communications.
