Dr. Matthew McAllister

Professor of Humanities

Matt McAllister was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, where he earned his B.S. in Music Education and his M.A. in Music History and Literature from West Chester University. He moved to Cocoa Beach, FL, where he served as a director of H.S. and Middle School Bands for 6 years before moving to Valencia College. In 2012, he was awarded his Ph. D. in Historical Musicology from The Florida State University, the focus of his dissertation being the intersection of music and irony in modern films. He has presented at numerous national and international conferences and has a number of articles published on the topics of 18th-century music and on music, irony, and film.
Dr. McAllister teaches humanities courses centered in the Medieval era, and the 18th through 20th centuries.
