BIOGRAPHICAL PROFILE
Richard Williams, Ed.D

Dr. Williams has been a Professor in the Learning Support Department teaching New Student Experience (NSE) courses since 2016. Dr. Williams teaches on the East, West, and the Downtown campus. Dr. Williams also serves as an advisor for his NSE students.

Dr. Richard Williams is originally from South Jersey but has been residing in South Florida for more than thirty years. Dr. Williams began his career in education as a high school Mathematics teacher at Miami Jackson Senior High in Miami- Dade County. He taught Algebra I, Speech, Drama and in the Adult GED program. Dr. Williams was a high school administrator for sixteen years with the last twelve being served in Palm Beach County.

Dr. Williams received a B.S. (Telecommunications) at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Md., M.S. (Educational Leadership) at Nova Southeastern University, as well as his Doctorate (Educational Leadership) at Nova Southeastern University. He is active in many community activities such as the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. (Chi Tau Chapter), Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Institutional Church (Associate Pastor), Palm Beach County School Administrators’ Association, Morgan State University Alumni Association – Life Membership, NAACP – Life Membership, National Notary Public Association, Abraham S. Fischler School of Education Advisory Board (Nova Southeastern University Palm Beach County)
In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his two sons playing board and card games and watching movies.

Welcome to SLS 1122. Over the next twelve weeks, I hope you will enjoy the materials, discussions, and assignments for this course, as well as finding relevance in the subject matter with regard to your current educational interest. I am looking forward to sharing with you my life’s experiences, as well as sharing yours, as we interact with the course materials. The New Student Experience is a coordinated experience for students within their first 15-18 credit hours at Valencia College. Through in and out of class learning opportunities, students will engage in activities that will help them identify their purpose, align educational and career goals, and increase a student's self-awareness in the skills they need in order to be a successful student. Please check Blackboard on a daily bases. I will be utilizing Blackboard to provide you with your weekly required assignments. All assignments will be due Sunday evenings before 11:59 pm. Any late submission will cause you to lose valuable points. NO EXCEPTIONS! You will need to purchase the required textbook or the electronic copy of the book is available for free if you purchase the one - time - use code at the company website.
