Dr. Andrew Alexander

Professor of Humanities and Philosophy

Andrew Alexander was born in Kingston, Jamaica, and grew up in New York City. In New York, he received his higher education at Columbia University, BA., MA., M.Ed., and Ed. D. He moved to south Florida and taught at a high school as well as Nova University and Florida Atlantic University. Since 1985, Valencia has been his academic home. He has enjoyed teaching courses primarily in Philosophy, Ethics, Enlightenment/Romanticism, Introduction to Humanities, and Twentieth Century Humanities. He married his childhood sweetheart and has an adult son. His book, entitled Philosophizing, was written to inspire a love of philosophical thinking. His goal is for his students to think critically, to value appreciatively, to communicate effectively, and to act responsibly. His hope is that his students will develop the knowledge, skills and values to experience deeply fulfilling personal, social and professional lives.
