Dr. Andrea Rediske

Professor of Biology

Hi, I'm Dr. Andrea Rediske, and I have been a full time professor here at Valencia College East Campus since Fall 2017, earning tenure in 2022. I started my adventure teaching in higher education as a part-time instructor at Valencia 2001 teaching Biology, Microbiology, and Anatomy and Physiology. I also taught Microbiology for 2 years at Cosumnes River College in Sacramento, CA, and have worked as a writer and editor for microbiology textbook companies for several years. Back in 2014, I decided that I needed some more skills and knowledge about how to be a better science instructor, so I began a doctoral program in Science Education at UCF (Go Knights!), and graduated in August 2017. I am delighted to be back in the classroom at Valencia doing what I love: teaching science.

In addition to my teaching duties, I am the Biology Coordinator for the East Campus Science Department, I serve on the East Campus Faculty Senate, and on the Assessment Coordinating Committee. As the Biology Coordinator, I work with part-time faculty to implement best practices in science education in face-to-face and online courses.

My research interests focus on mixed methods analysis of the efficacy of educational interventions in post-secondary science education, particularly in Microbiology. I am the research section editor for the Journal of Microbiology and Biology Education, and I collaborate with science educators around the country in science education research. I am also in collaboration with language professors here at Valencia College on providing language services to English-Language-Learners in microbiology courses.
