Colleen Dieckmann

Associate Faculty

Welcome to my Valencia College faculty page!

I’m looking forward to new classes this Spring and Summer 2024! Come join the writer’s community by signing up for one of my Valencia College ENC classes! In ENC 1101 we will practice skills needed for academic writing success and discover our world with an International unit that qualifies for the Global Designation credit. In ENC 1102, we will be investigating local problems and solutions plus sharing stories, exploring literature, learning new research strategies, and analyzing movies! (Faculty name listed: Dieckmann). We will be using an online textbook through the Valencia College Library, so students do not need to purchase a book for my ENC 1101 and 1102 classes.

I enjoy guiding students on their journey to become stronger writers – both for academic success and for their own writing exploration and path toward publishing. Class activities include writing projects, interesting readings, group research, Grammar Rock sing-a-longs, seminars on MLA citation, community events, poetry/spoken word and fun flipped learning. Come join our writing community!

If you are considering signing up for my class and have any questions, don't hesitate to e-mail me (see below).

As an instructor for over 20 years, I have taught regular semester and summer sessions, accelerated, hybrid, online, and service learning classes in English Composition, Technical/Professional Writing, and Creative Writing.

Although my first love is writing and the arts, I have a strong background in business as a team member and subsequent assistant manager in the family resort business. I earned my BA in Business Administration and Organizational Communication and continued my diverse business and writing experience while completing my Masters in Creative Writing at Murray State University and beyond.

My passion is poetry, written and spoken, and I have been active in the spoken word community in several states. I'm also very active in several community organizations. I sang with Voices of Valencia (Valencia East Campus) where I had the opportunity to sing Candlelight at Epcot in December for several years. I was also a member and board member of the Orlando Circle of Friends that produced shows and other fundraising events to support local community partner organizations such as Freedom Ride and New Hope for Kids. For several years I was the webmaster and a board member for Boaters for Books, an organization that collected and donated books and delivered them to school libraries in the Caribbean Islands. Other roles I have enjoyed include sailing instructor, home school director, band mom, and college application advisor. I also enjoy reading, dancing, and Tai Chi.
