Dr. CJ Eland

Visiting Professor of Philosophy

Hi there! My name is CJ and I talk about philosophy a lot. My background is in contemporary continental philosophy, with a special focus on the work of Emmanuel Levinas. I am most interested in philosophical themes relating to ethics and political theory.

The unique turn in my academic life is that I lived in Brazil for 11 years, where I earned my graduate degrees. Having an academic background studying in Latin America, and the experience of being a foreign student, has given me a broad global perspective on philosophical issues.

I also hold a master's degree in Human Rights Studies, which focused on the Latin American approach to Human Rights as an opposition to colonialism and neocolonialism.
