Faculty FrontDoor

David Curtis, MS

Instructor of Biology and Microbiology

I currently hold both a BS in Biology and a MS in Microbiology and Molecular Biology from the University of Central Florida (UCF).

I have been an instructor for over 15 years working first as high school teacher and then later, after returning to graduate school myself, as a graduate teaching assistant for Microbiology at UCF and as an adjunct faculty member at Valencia College's East Campus. In my capacity as an adjunct faculty member, I have had the pleasure of teaching Fundamentals of Biology 1, Microbiology, Anatomy and Physiology 1 and Anatomy and Physiology 2.

I joined the faculty at the West Campus of Valencia College in August of 2011 as a full-time, tenure-track instructor. Currently, I am a tenured faculty member and am responsible for teaching General Biology 1 and Microbiology courses at the college.

Teaching Philosophy: I believe very strongly in challenging students within the confines of the lecture and lab setting to show them the potential they have for success despite the rigors of what lay before them, both in the classroom and beyond.

Important Announcements
Fall 2018 Courses

The first day of Fall classes begins on Monday, August 27. In preparation, I have taken the time to set up your Canvas courses and publish them so that they are available to you at this time. Take a few minutes to review the syllabus and the course schedule, as well as to familiarize yourself with the material associated with the first unit that we will begin covering during the fist week of classes. You may also want to start by downloading the first few narrated lectures and making sure that you can listen to them. At the end of each narrated lecture is a set of questions I refer to as "Check Your Understanding." To ensure that you have listened to the lectures before coming to class, i will be collecting these questions as outlined in the Canvas announcement for the course. I look forward to meeting each of you next week and look forward to a productive semester as we learn the intricacies of biology or microbiology together... Cheers!
