Dr. Gary Deel

Adjunct Professor, PhD, JD, CHSP, CHSE, CHE, CHIA

Dr.Gary Deel is an adjunct professor for Valencia College in Hospitality Management.

Gary holds BS and MS Degrees in Hospitality Management from the University of Central Florida (UCF), a JD in Law from Florida A&M University (FAMU) in Orlando, and a PhD in Hotel Administration from the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV). Gary began his professional career with the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, working in both theme parks and hotels. After several years with Disney, Gary was offered a position with Rosen Hotels & Resorts. At Rosen, Gary served in several leadership roles, including Guest Relations Manager, Hotel Manager, Investigations Manager, Assistant Security Director, and Sales Manager for the company's seven hotels. After nearly five years with Rosen, Gary went to work with Picsolve, Inc., a UK-based entertainment photography company that manages photo operations for more than 350 different theme parks, aquariums, zoos, and other attractions all around the world. At Picsolve, Gary oversaw 14 attractions throughout the United States and Canada for Picsolve's biggest global account, Merlin Entertainments Group. When Gary moved to Las Vegas for his doctoral degree in 2013, he took a job with Merlin as Head of Operations at the Madame Tussaud’s Las Vegas Interactive Wax Museum. Thereafter, Gary also worked as Manager of Training and Administration for Wynn Resorts, and as Associate Attorney for the prestigious California-based law firm Phillips, Spallas, & Angstadt.

In addition to Gary's industry experience, he has also spent nearly seven years as an educator at various higher learning institutions, including Valencia College, UNLV, Colorado Technical University, Kaplan University, The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, UCF, and most recently, APUS. Gary has taught courses in hospitality management, leadership and ethics, sales and marketing, professionalism, law, human resources, engineering, and other areas.

Over the course of Gary's career, he has also earned several professional licenses and credentials. Gary is licensed to practice law in Florida and Nevada, and he is credentialed as a Certified Hospitality Sales Professional (CHSP), Certified Hotel Sales Executive (CHSE), Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE), and Certified Hospitality Industry Analyst (CHIA)

Gary is originally from upstate New York, but now lives in Orlando, Florida, with his beautiful fiancee, Jackie, and their son, Carl. Gary and Jackie are also the proud parents of a 8-year old Pug named Ozzy. Gary's goal as a teacher is to foster the most engaging and effective learning environment for the benefit of his students, and to inspire them to push the boundaries of what they believe is possible for their own personal, professional, and academic development. He takes his commitment to his students very seriously, and strives to help them in their academic endeavors however he can.
