Adjunct Professor NSE/Advisor
If this is your first experience with Valencia College; welcome, you’re not alone! I too, am new to Valencia, but I am certainly not new to teaching. I hold a post graduate degree in Education from the University of Phoenix, and an undergraduate degree in Communication from the University of Illinois, Springfield. I’ve been an educator for 20 years.
I began my career teaching Speech Communication courses at Walter’s State College in Morristown, Tennessee. I also taught Job Skills courses through the Job Training Partnership Act, (JTPA). In addition, I spent 10 years teaching at the elementary level, where I earned the distinguished, “Teacher of the Year” award in 2010, and again in 2013. In 2015, I crossed an item off my bucket list by earning the Competent Communicator award through Toastmasters International. As you can tell, I love what I do!
My proudest accomplishments are my two sons; ages 24 and 21. My oldest son graduated from The University of Tennessee, and is currently serving as a Lieutenant in the United States Army. My youngest son is a senior at Middle Tennessee State University, he too, will be commissioned as an officer upon his graduation. I’ve had many proud moments as a mom, but my proudest was the first time I saw someone salute my son…wow!
My husband and I recently relocated from Tucson, AZ. Since we’re “empty nesters” we plan to enjoy all Orlando has to offer. We love biking, canoeing, and camping. By camping I mean plugging our RV into the power source, so our TV and microwave work!
I believe New Student Experience is an excellent resource for college students who want to ensure success, not only while in college, but also in the workplace. My purpose is to help you find your purpose! Let’s get this party started!
