Mrs. JoEll Dean
If this is your first experience with Valencia College; welcome! If you're a returning student; welcome back! I've been an educator for over 20 years. I hold a post graduate degree in Education from the University of Phoenix, and an undergraduate degree in Communication from the University of Illinois, Springfield.
I began my career teaching Speech Communication courses at Walter’s State College in Morristown, Tennessee. I also taught Job Skills courses through the Job Training Partnership Act, (JTPA). In addition, I spent 10 years teaching at the elementary level, where I earned the distinguished, “Teacher of the Year” award in 2010, and again in 2013. In 2015, I crossed an item off my bucket list by earning the Competent Communicator award through Toastmasters International. As you can tell, I love what I do!
My proudest accomplishments are my two sons; ages 25 and 22. My oldest son graduated from The University of Tennessee, and is currently serving as a Lieutenant in the United States Army. My youngest son graduated from Middle Tennessee State University this past December, and received his commission as an Army Second Lieutenant. I’ve had many proud moments as a mom, but my proudest so far has to be the first time I saw someone salute my son…wow!
My husband and I relocated from Tucson, AZ. a little over a year ago. Since we’re “empty nesters” we're enjoying all Orlando has to offer. We love biking, canoeing, and camping. By camping I mean plugging our RV into the power source, so our TV and microwave work!
I believe New Student Experience is an excellent resource for college students who want to ensure success; not only while in college, but also in the workplace. My purpose is to help you find your purpose! So, let’s get this party started!
