John Philcox


Mr. Philcox holds a Masters of Arts Degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of North Florida, and is a Certified Criminal Justice Addictions Professional. His Bachelors of Arts Degree is in Sociology and Mathematics with a Business Administration minor. After a 33 year career Mr. Philcox retired in 2005 from the Federal Courts as a Senior United States Probation Officer. In his position Mr. Philcox oversaw the mental health and substance abuse treatment programs. Mr. Philcox has held a variety of positions over the years. In 1973 he began his professional career with the Florida Parole Commission and has worked with the Community College in Jacksonville, the University of South Carolina in Columbia, the National Parole Service in western Canada, the Bradford/Union Guidance Clinic in Starke, Florida, the DUI programs at the Northeast Florida Safety Council, Central Florida Safety Council and West Central Driver Improvement Program. Mr. Philcox has been a trainer/educator with the University of South Carolina, Jacksonville Community College, United States Probation Office, DUI Programs, Department of Motor Vehicles and Highway Safety, and Valencia College for Professional Development. Mr. Philcox holds a Commercial Pilots License. He has completed the three year leadership development program at the Federal Judicial Center in Washington, D.C. Mr. Philcox currently works full time as a Tenured Track Professor with Valencia College and recently retired from the Florida Safety Council as a Senior DUI Instructor after 34 years. In April 2007 he received the Winter Park Campus’ Excellence in Teaching Award and has also been recognized as DUI Instructor of the Year. He has been married for 43 years and has three children and six grandchildren.
