Dr. James Rovira

Part-Time Instructor in English

Dr. James Rovira is a graduate of Valencia College, receiving his A.A. from (then) Valencia Community College in 1992. He went on to receive his B.A. in English from Rollins College in 1996, and his M.Phil. (2004) and then Ph.D. (2008) degrees from Drew University. He has been teaching at the college level since 2001, and teaching full time since 2004. He has taught first year writing his entire teaching career, and he has also taught British Literature (surveys, the novel, and poetry); American Poetry; World Literature; Literary Theory; Creative Writing, Formal Verse; Creative Writing, Free Verse; Introduction to Creative Writing; Mythology; and more.

His books include Writing for College and Beyond (Lulu Press, 2019); Reading as Democracy in Crisis: Interpretation, Theory, History (Lexington Books, 2019); Rock and Romanticism: Post-Punk, Goth, and Metal as Dark Romanticisms (Palgrave Macmillan, 2018); Rock and Romanticism: Blake, Wordsworth, and Rock from Dylan to U2 (Lexington Books, 2018); and Blake and Kierkegaard: Creation and Anxiety (Continuum/Bloomsbury, 2010).

The anthology David Bowie and Romanticism is forthcoming from Palgrave Macmillan Spring of 2022 and the anthology Women in Rock/Women in Literature is forthcoming from Routledge Spring 2022.

He has also published about 30 poems; 25 reviews, book chapters, and articles; and a number of works of film criticism, most of which are online. Dr. Rovira currently lives on Florida's Space Coast with his wife Sheridan and his children Penn, Grace, and Zoe.
