Kinyel K. Ragland, Sr.

Associate Professor

I achieved a BA in Political Science from Brooklyn College and a MA from the Brooklyn College Graduate Center for Worker's Education in Urban Policy and Public Administration.

I had the privilege of participating in profound research projects including: working with the Restaurant Opportunities Center of New York, an organization which gives attention to the exploitation of immigrant workers in restaurants; working as a Research Assistant for Dr. Noel Anderson, who completed a book based on the issues surrounding black males and education; and FSU, which worked in conjunction with the Florida Center for Reading Research, in a extensive study on reading comprehension as it applies to Social Studies in middle school students.

I have a passion for working with children and I'm a firm advocate for education. I've worked with the YMCA for their after-school program and refereed YMCA Flag Football for Minors. I've also had the pleasure of working with the After School Program (ASP)during their summer camp session and tutoring children at a Title 1 school in the fall.

As for my teaching career, I taught several subjects at a private, religious school that sponsors McKay scholarships for students with learning disabilities. I also had the opportunity to teach Language Arts under the Adult Basic Education program at Orlando Technical School (OCPS). Lastly, I taught the ABE/GED program to recovering addicts at the Salvation Army's Adult Rehabilitation Center in Orlando.
