Kathryn Unger

Adjunct Professor

I am Kathy Unger; currently I am an adjunct professor for Valencia College, West Campus.

I was raised in Pennsylvania a beautiful state; I enjoy returning yearly to visit my family and friends. I am proud of my parents they have laid the foundation of my beliefs and value system. I always try to make them proud of everything I do. This is where I obtained my undergraduate degree from Chatham College in Liberal Arts. After graduating from Chatham I moved to California where I met my husband. He is a pilot and was a pilot for commercial airlines. We became professional gypsies living from state to state until he was hired by United. We lived in four different states ending up in Iowa. Here we settled and raised a family of four children. It is in Iowa that I realized that I wanted to be a teacher so I attended Buena Vista University to acquire my teaching license. I taught in Early Education for seven years.

After our children graduated from high school and were in college my husband and I decided that shoveling snow was not what we wanted to do for the rest of our lives so we looked for positions in Florida. I was hired by the School District of Osceola County (SDOC) to teach Pre-Kindergarten.
I taught at SDOC for 3 years and then applied and was hired as a Pre-K Resource teacher however my position was a bit different I was hired to work with the private providers in Osceola County, developing adult education for the early educators here. I have been working with the Early Learning Coalition of Osceola County for 10 years, part of my responsibilities for the coalition is to provide an annual conference that you might have heard of “Ready Set Grow” the Early Educators Annual Conference- this has been my “baby” for 8 years, I have coordinated the conference and taken great care to bring in presenters that would benefit everyone in early education.

My Masters Degree is from the American College of Education in Curriculum and Instruction. I am working on a second Master Degree in Education and Leadership. As I continue my duties as a Pre-k Resource Teacher for the SDOC and ELC, I am also an Adjunct Professor for Valencia. I am excited to be able to affect potential early childhood teachers right from the start!

I also fancy myself as an author of children stories. Yes I am trying to become published and hopefully will have my first book published this spring.
