I am a Valencia Nursing Program Graduate (1996). While at Valencia, I worked for Orlando Regional Medical Center, which is known today as Orlando Health. Prior to graduating from Valencia, I earned a BA in Psychology from the University of Central Florida.

Work experience includes: Five years adjunct clinical instructor with Valencia, speaker’s bureau for Pfizer, private pain management practice, medical legal consulting firm, thirteen years within the Orlando Health System, in multiple areas, including Emergency, Women’s GYN/ONC Medical Surgical, Pediatric Perioperative, Adult Perioperative, Ambulatory Care, Anesthesia Pain Management Clinic, and Corporate Education. Residency experience includes Florida Department of Corrections, Cardiology, Internal Medicine, and the UCF Student Health Clinic.

After completion of a BSN (1998) and MSN (2001), earning a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP, 2012), from the University of Alabama Birmingham, the University of Alabama and the University of Alabama, Huntsville combined DNP program, certificate in Forensic Nursing (UF), certificate in Legal Nurse Consulting (UCF), National Certification as an Adult Nurse Practitioner, Board Certification in Pain Management Nursing, Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator, I continue to work part time in clinical practice and as a volunteer health care provider serving uninsured and underinsured patents within the local community. I have also held a volunteer appointed faculty position within the UCF College of Medicine since 2010.

Areas of special interest include the use of simulation as an educational modality for bridging the gap from academia to clinical practice, specifically focusing in the areas of Situational Awareness and Multidisciplinary Collaboration.

My teaching philosophy encompasses both student centered and collaborative learning, encouraging students to develop to their full potential and strive to achieve goals through lifelong learning. I am also a faculty advisor for the Valencia Student Nurses Association, mentoring first semester nursing students to become active members of their professional organizations promoting personal and professional growth, leadership opportunities and advocating change for the future of healthcare.

My current professional involvement includes: Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society for Nursing, American Nurses Association, Florida Nurses Association, and American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, American College of Nurse Practitioners, American Society of Pain Management Nurses, and International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning, Society for Simulation in Healthcare, Central Florida Advanced Practice Council, and Florida Simulation Healthcare Alliance.
