Nissa Hopkins

Faculty Association Vice President
Professor of English for Academic Purpose (EAP)

Greetings to you all! I am both the College-wide Faculty Association Vice President and a professor of EAP on East Campus, so please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have. I'm here to listen to you all and assist however I can.

I have been teaching EAP at Valencia College since 2011, and before that, I taught ESOL and EAP at Seminole State College for seven years. I am passionate about teaching, learning, and advocacy, and I truly love coming to work every day.

Like my EAP students, I also have lived in a different country and learned a different language; Japanese is my second language, and I love learning about different languages and cultures as I help facilitate others as they learn English. In my free time, in addition to spending time with my family, friends, and two adorable dogs, I also love yoga, working out, binging on Netflix shows, animals of all kinds, reading, writing, traveling, and eating lots and lots of delicious food from around the world. :)

For my students, I know that language learning can sometimes be a frustrating process, but I also know that it has many rewards and benefits, so I am glad to be helping students on their learning journeys. For my fellow faculty members, I'm honored to raise your voices and your concerns and am here for you. On both counts, I'm truly grateful to be able to do what I do.

Please feel free to contact me or see me during my office hours. I am here to help!
