Shawna Defriece

Professor and Program Director CVT Program

Welcome to Valencia! I started my healthcare career as a Respiratory Therapist after graduating from Chattanooga State Technical Community College in 1999. After a few years, I made a transition into the world of cardiac electrophysiology (EP). I found my love for procedural cardiac work at that time!

I relocated to Florida in 2009 and I was hired in the EP lab at Orlando Regional Medical Center as staff and later promoted to the EP Lab Supervisor. I received my RCES (EP certification) in 2010, and in 2011, I received my Bachelors degree in Cardiopulmonary from East Tennessee State University.

I came to Valencia College in the Fall of 2013 as the Clinical Coordinator and Professor of the CVT program. In August 2019, I changed roles and became the Program Director for the CVT program. I am proud to represent both the program and Valencia College and I love that I get to be a small part of a student's journey to their future career!
