Zachary Hyde

Department of English

I received both a Bachelor's degree in Literature and a Master's degree in Literary, Cultural, and Textual Studies from the University of Central Florida. My research interests center mainly in the field of comics studies and aesthetics, though I use concepts from metamodernism, (post)critique, and genre studies for pedagogical purposes. I have conferenced on the popular culture zombie and on comics studies, and I have published on metamodern subjectivity and on cyberpunk sf.

"We need this kind of monster in the world [...] comics in general, with their riotous color and other pleasures, both linear and not." -- Scott Bukatman

"Leaps of the imagination are an enormous pleasure, and comics are particularly good at sparking them." -- Douglas Wolk

"As for ideas, everyone has them. What counts is the poetic singularity of the analysis." -- Jean Baudrillard

"No orthodoxy of 'reading' is without its blind spots." -- Marjorie Garber
