CATALOG COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course consists of a 15-hour field experience in a public, charter, or accredited private school.
ONLINE COURSE: A course in which all of the content is delivered online using the college-approved course management system (Blackboard).

A flash drive is also suggested for storing class materials and artifacts. You must keep several backup copies of your assignments and completed rubrics for your portfolio. Keep them in different areas, not just in one place (on your computer AND on several flash drives).

| Interviews Understanding how the classroom and the school in which you are observing will improve your field experience. Interview the following school personnel and write a reflection about what you learned. Suggested questions have been included, but you should feel free to add your own questions.

Observations Classroom observations are a very important part of a field experience. Conduct a two to three (2-3) hour observation in each of the following five (5) areas:
Reflections Write a reflection for each of the areas listed above. Your reflection should begin with a summary of your observations and conclude with your thoughts on the observations. The following questions will help guide your reflections. You do not have to answer all questions posed. Reflections should be 2 to 3 pages typed, double-spaced, and are submitted via Blackboard under the appropriate assignment.
Discussions in Blackboard Each student may be assigned to a group for some discussions in Blackboard. For each discussion, you will post your own answer to the questions and respond to two other group member’s posts. The discussions will relate to your observation topics and interviews.
Teaching Demonstration One teaching demonstration must be completed by all students enrolled in this course in order to receive credit for this course. See the Field Experience Handbook for details about the demonstration. |

Assignments and/or artifacts completed in this and other EPI courses may be placed into your electronic teaching portfolio to demonstrate specific teaching competencies.

All artifacts and the Teaching Demonstration must be completed by all students enrolled in this course in order to receive a passing grade for this course.

Blackboard: All assignments and their due dates will be located in Blackboard for the course. Additional readings and information will also be posted.

WITHDRAWAL POICY: Students may withdraw themselves for a W up until the withdrawal deadline. After the withdrawal deadline each semester, students can no longer withdraw themselves. Professors can withdraw students for a W after the deadline only for excessive absences. After the withdrawal deadline, the professor will not withdraw students; students will receive the grade they have earned based on their classroom performance and participation. Grades of WP and WF are no longer given.
