  Textbook: Oceanography: An Invitation to Marine Science, Garrison, 6th edition Course Description: Introduction to oceanography includes study of the ocean’s geological, physical, chemical, and biological processes, such as seafloor spreading, composition of seawater, currents, waves and tides, life in the sea, and ocean pollution and marine policy/management. The course outline will follow the chapter outline in the textbook. Florida’s unique coastal environment will be discussed.

Exams: There will be three exams in this class: two midterm exams and one final exam. The final exam will be considered as a third mid-term. In other words, it is not a cumulative exam. All tests must be taken during the dates assigned. Make up exam can be given only when you have medical or family emergency. Documentation supporting your missing of the tests will be required. 

Grading Policy:  Final grade will be determined by class attendance, homework assignments, and all exams. No late-submission of assignments will be accepted.

mid-term exam 1:            20%;

mid-term exam 2:            20%;

final exam:                       20%

Typical letter grade scale: A = 100-90;    B = 89-80;    C = 79-70;    D = 69-60;    F = 59-0 Attendance Policy: You must maintain acceptable attendance in your online course.  Just logging into your online course does not constitute attendance.  You must complete a required activity.o       Failing to complete two-consecutive weeks of required work in your course will result in your instructor reporting you as Stopped Attending and the college will withdraw you for nonattendance from the course.  You will not be reinstated.o       If for any reason you believe you will miss any assignment in your course, you must obtain prior approval from your instructor.  Do not assume that you can ask for forgiveness or an extension after the fact.  Documentation will be required.Please check Assignments every Monday. We will have weekly assignment throughout the semester. All assignments have to be submitted by the due dates. No late submission will be accepted. No partial credits will be given for late submissions.You are expected to participate in Discussions whenever a topic is assigned. Your participation in Discussions will be counted as part of the Assignments in your grade.

Textbook: The Atmosphere – An Introduction to Meteorology, Lutgens and Tarbuck, 11th edition

  Course Description: Introduction to meteorology includes study of the composition of the atmosphere, heat budget of the Earth, temperature and moisture variations, atmospheric stability, winds and atmospheric circulation, weather patterns, storms, and air pollution. The course outline will follow the chapter outline in the textbook. Emphasis will be on Florida’s weather where applicable.
