Valencia faculty has defined four interrelated competencies (Value, Think, Communicate, Act) that prepare students to succeed in the world community. These competencies are outlined in the College Catalog. In this course, through classroom lecture and discussion, group work, and other learning activities, you will further develop your mastery of these core competencies.

Class competencies: Think critically regarding the message and the medium.

Develop an understanding of client and audience sensibilities. Utilize effective imagery appropriate to the message and target audience. Implement sound communication strategies based on analysis.

Attendance Policy: Lectures and demonstrations are given at each class meeting, so it is advised to be punctual. The course material is taught in class and projects and assignments are worked on during class. It is your responsibility to attend or make arrangements with a classmate to make up what was missed. Tardiness and leaving before class is dismissed constitutes an absence or partial absence. Each class period is 3.75 hrs in length. If one unexcused absence is incurred, an absence notice will be sent to the student. If more than two absences occur, you will be given the option to be withdrawn for excessive absences or have your final grade reduced by 10%(one letter grade). Students should bring required materials and come to each class prepared to work.

Grading: Assignments 10%, CIB Lessons/Participation 10%, Projects 30%, Tests 30%, Final Exam 20% = 100% final grade.

Grading Scale: A=100-91, B=90-81, C=80-71, D=70-61, F=60 or below. NOTE: a grade of a C or better must be obtained for prerequisite or AS degree graduation requirements.

Due Date: The importance of deadlines cannot be over-emphasized. If you intend to be a graphic, multimedia, or video professional, completing projects in a timely manner is paramount. All projects will be assigned a due date. Any projects handed in after the due date will not be accepted and will score as a 0%. It behooves a student who is late with a project to contact the professor and turn in all resources and the incomplete project for a partial grade rather than receiving a zero there is no makeup for the Final Exam. Valencia policy dictates that students missing a final exam period must be given a WF.

Makeup Policy: There is no make-up for missed tests or exams.

Critiques: At times critiques of projects will be conducted. When held you will be expected to come prepared with comments about your projects and to provide constructive praise and criticism of your classmates’ projects. Good oral communication skills and participation will be considered when grading assignments.
