Announcements for Mr. Kloko

Welcome German 1!

Liebe Leute! / Dear People, Welcome to German 1. Thank you for your interest in the language. This class is for anyone who is starting out in German. No previous knowledge is required. In fact, is you spoke German as a child, learned it in high school or studied it at another college, you really don’t belong in this class. By the way, we meet in Building 3 Room 131. Just a couple of ground rules before you get to class: 1. No food. Drinks are fine. 2. No laptops or active cellphones. This is an old-fashioned face-to-face class. You’ll either be listening to a lecture, repeating what I say or talking to each other. There’s no room for hiding behind a laptop. 3. It’s always best to be here and be on time. But if you’re running late, don’t hesitate: Come on in! I’d rather have you here even if you’re late. You’ll need to get a textbook at Valencia’s bookstore. It needs to be new because it comes with an online access code that you’ll need for all the homework and quizzes. It’s expensive, but once you get it you can use it for all your German classes at Valencia and UCF. A common problem at the start of a class is that students are waiting for financial aid and can’t afford the book right away. You can apply for a two-week grace period from the publishers. Here are the instructions in their own words: Dear Student. You will be given access to a grace period that allows you to use the course for two weeks. Your instructor must grant you access to the Grace Period. However, you must first create a VHL account before your instructor can grant you access. To create a VHL account: 1. Go to vhlcentral.com. 2. Click ‘Create an account’ under ‘Log in’ on VHLCENTRAL home page. 3. Follow the instructions to register and enroll. Add a new school. Verify the information and type the school name and select from the options. (Make sure you choose the correct campus). Click on ‘Select school’. The system will give you the option to activate a code but since you do not have one yet, click ‘Skip this step’ and choose one of the book covers available. [CHOOSE THE SECOND EDITION!] Next click in ‘Show courses’ to see the instructor, course and section. Once you have located the appropriate course, click on ‘Select course’. Once you have completed the steps above you should receive a message “You have successfully joined your course.” Note: You must purchase an access code before the end of two weeks to continue access to the course. There will be no extensions to the grace period beyond the original period. That’s the end of the official instructions from Vista. I don’t have much more to add other than I look forward to meeting you. Again, WILLKOMMEN! Nur das Beste / Only the best, Professor Kloko
