Aurimar Lugo-Negron
Nominated for a 2024 FAAETCL Faculty Association Award
Founder and Editor of the Creative Writing Blog, Diaries of the Diaspora (currently under construction)
Welcome to my profile everyone!
I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Education and Technology from the American University of PR and my Master of Arts in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from the Interamerican University of PR-Metro Campus. I also possess an MA Certification in Educational Leadership from Cambridge College PR Campus.
I have taught English as a Second Language in Puerto Rico since 2004 and in Florida since 2018. I have taught English for Academic Purposes (EAP) at the Valencia College West, Osceola, and the Downtown Campus since the fall of 2018. Also, I have taught at the Valencia College Continuing Education department, including the Intensive English Program (IEP), English as a Second Language (ESOL), and Virtual English Language Teaching (VELT). Currently, I work alongside the Multilingual Services Department at Orange County Public Schools as an ESOL Compliance Specialist. In all of my roles, I provide help for individuals to learn another language for personal, educational, or professional reasons.
I am a free-spirited, sun-chaser, forever The Beatles-fan educator, who loves to meet people from other cultures and nationalities. I enjoy reading, running, and hiking around nature, yet my favorite role is being a mommy and spending time with my little family.
I consider myself a “lifelong student” because life has a peculiar way of teaching new things when we least expect it. I hope everyone should leave my classroom feeling refreshed and motivated, with a new built-in confidence to use the language, and a newfound curious mind to keep academically growing.
Check out my blog, Diaries of the Diaspora at http://diariesofthediaspora.wordpress.com. Whether you identify as an immigrant, are a child of immigrants, or simply a supporter of this rich community, your voice matters here. Join us in sharing your unique perspectives and narratives as we foster understanding and connection through the power of storytelling. Together, let’s create a tapestry of experiences that honors our journeys and inspires others.
