Elizabeth Eschbach

Professor of Humanities

Welcome to the home page of Elizabeth Eschbach, Professor of Humanities. It is a joy and privilege to be part of one of the richest and most dynamic humanities programs in the country. I am thrilled to work and interact with Valencia students who bring energy, vitality, curiosity, and diverse backgrounds to our humanities classrooms and to the campus as a whole. Thanks to this extraordinary student body, every class experience brings fresh perspectives and new opportunities to deepen our pursuit of beauty, truth, and knowledge. I am very grateful for these opportunities.

My own academic background has been broad and varied, from the small liberal arts college where I began my higher education, Agnes Scott College, to the second largest university in the country, the University of Central Florida, where I completed my Master’s degree. I have also studied French language and culture at the Université Paul Cezanne in Aix-en-Provence, France, as well as medieval history at Cambridge University. My studies are often combined with travel experiences, from the high Andes Mountains of Peru to the Himalayan foothills in India. Every year I travel overseas to nourish my love of history, art, music, and culture. My continuous studies and love of travel enable me to endlessly renew and enrich my passion for the humanities.

My classes are interactive with an emphasis on discussion and student engagement. I believe firmly in learning beyond the walls of the classrooms, so part of my curriculum involves participation in our fine and performing arts program, as well as the cultural offerings of Central Florida. I have been involved in the Humanities Speaker Series, that brings internationally recognized authors and scholars to our campus, as well as the book circles and reading projects that complement our series.

Every semester brings endless possibilities. Welcome to the journey.
