Dr. Heather Bryson
“History teaches, but it has no pupils.”
-Antonio Gramsci, 1919
Welcome! Please allow me to tell you a bit about myself. I was born and raised in Central Florida. I attended Loyola University in New Orleans and studied U.S. History. After graduating and teaching middle school for a four years, I decided to return to my studies. I attended the University of Florida for my master’s and doctorate in U.S. History with a concentration in southern race and gender. I graduated in 2011 and began to teach for Valencia just a few months later. The classroom is one of my favorite places to be. I will endeavor to make our time together interesting (which will be easy because people are so wonderfully and wickedly strange). My goal is to help you use history to gain a greater understanding about the world today. I am hoping that together we can prove Gramsci wrong and learn not only about, but also from history.
