Dr. Javier Garces

I am Professor & Program Director for the Plant Science and Agricultural Technology Program. I was born and raised in Miami, FL. After graduating high school, I moved to Gainesville to attend the University of Florida. Here, I completed my Bachelor’s degree in General Horticulture and then went on to graduate school to obtain a Doctor of Plant Medicine degree. Prior to my position here at Valencia, I worked for a company that had two farms specializing in woody ornamental plant production. I was “Plant Health Specialist” for approximately 1600 acres of containerized plant production. I am a farmer at heart at still like to keep one foot in the horticulture industry by visiting farms/nurseries to consult with farmers on how to better grow their crops.
