Lori Alturo

Adjunct Professor, Respiratory Care Program

My name is Lori Alturo. I am a Respiratory Therapist and Adjunct Professor in the Respiratory Care program at Valencia College. I obtained a BS in Health Science/Respiratory Care at West Chester University in 2002.

I am a Registered Respiratory Therapist and a Neonatal/Pediatric Specialist. I am a member of the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC), National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC), and Florida Society for Respiratory Care (FSRC).

Prior to my career, I held several jobs and worked hard to pay my way through a college degree and begin a career as a respiratory therapist in 2002 at Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, DE. In the next 10 years, I cared for neonatal and pediatric critical care patients, taught families of patients with a new tracheostomy how to care for their child at home, and became a clinical instructor for the respiratory department. In 2012, I began work to build and educate a respiratory department at a brand new sister hospital in Orlando, FL - Nemours Children's Hospital. Within the 10 years that followed, my family relocated twice, and I maintained employment within respiratory departments in the Nemours Health system. I held new positions such as an outpatient pulmonary clinic RT (performing spirometry and PFT's for pediatric patients), and respiratory department manager.

I joined the Respiratory Care Program team at Valencia as an adjunct professor in 2024. My goal is to provide quality instruction in a way that allows each of my students to effectively learn and positively impact their potential in job earning and life building.
