Dr. Milica Calovic
I have been a cell genetics research scientist at the University of Florida for over 15 years. I still maintain a part-time position at UF since it is important to me to keep up to date on the latest trends and skills needed in biotechnology. After graduating with a PhD Degree in biology in 2014, I began my teaching career at West Campus of Valencia College. During my time as an educator, I have taught General Biology I, General Biology II, Microbiology, and Human Anatomy & Physiology II.
I enjoy teaching face to face, as it gives me the chance to work with students one on one in order to facilitate their learning of new biology concepts and terms. In this process, I apply an Active Learning-Centered Teaching (aka. student-centered teaching) practices that involve students as active participants in learning experiences rather than as passive observers. In applying a student-centered teaching system, my goals for students are to assist them in understanding the complexity of biological processes and the world that surrounds them, and help them see the relevance of this knowledge to their chosen healthcare professions.
