II. Course Description

 

Prerequisite SPC 1600 and DEH 2700 Dental Health Education; Corequisite DEH 2804 and DEH 2804L.  Introduces student dental hygienists to the study of various aspects of community dentistry/public health and the basic concepts of surveying, analysis, planning, implementation, and evaluation in public health.  Statistical analysis, research methodology, and dental health education presentations are included.

     VI. Class Expectations and Attendance

 

 

  1.  Community dental health is an intense course.  Students should STUDY AT LEAST 30 MINUTES EACH DAY in order to successfully pass this class.

 

  1. Students are expected to attend class, any unexcused absence from class will result in a 1 pt. deduction from your total points earned. Two tardies to class will also result in a 1pt. deduction from your total points earned. There will be no make-up quizzes or exams unless approved by both instructors. You are responsible for the material taught in class as well as completing all assigned projects within this course.

 

  1. Any student who exhibits excessive disruptive behavior will be asked to leave the class.  Disruptive behavior includes, but is not limited to, talking during lectures, disrespectful language, tones, or mannerisms, and noisy entrances or exits from class.  The disruptive student will leave the class upon the request of the professor.

 

  1. Academic dishonesty is not tolerated.  Academic dishonesty includes, but is not limited to, plagiarism, cheating, furnishing false information, forgery, alteration or misuse of documents, misconduct during a testing situation, and misuse of identification with the intent to defraud or deceive.  The penalty that the student may receive for academic dishonesty may include, but not be necessarily limited to, one or more of the following:

     

  • Loss of credit for an assignment, examination, or project

  • Reduction in the course grade

  • A grade of “F” in the course

  • Dismissal from the Dental Hygiene Program

     

 

  1. Per Valencia policy, children are not permitted to attend lectures.

 

  1. The use of cell phones, beepers, and any other devices that emits audible sound is not permitted in the lectures, unless requested by the professor for class activity.

     

  2. The student is responsible for withdrawing from the course.  The professor will not drop you from the course.  Per Valencia policy, a student who withdraws from this course before the withdrawal deadline of November 10, 2017 will receive a grade of “W”.  A student is not permitted to withdraw after the withdrawal deadline.  Any student who withdraws from a class during a third or subsequent attempt in the same course will be assigned a grade of “F”. To receive a 100% refund of the refundable fees, students must drop from a course or all courses before the last day of the Drop/Add period as listed in the credit class schedule. September 5, 2017 is the final date you can withdraw from this class and still receive a full refund.

     

  3. Students with Disabilities:  Students with disabilities who qualify for academic accommodations must provide a Notification to Instructor (NTI) form from the Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD) and discuss specific needs with the professor, preferably during the first two weeks of class.  The Office for Students with Disabilities determines accommodations based on appropriate documentation of disabilities.

  1. Because of privacy issues, tape recorders and any other devices that can record the information in this course are not allowed.  If a student has a disability and needs to be able to record the information presented in class, then the student must provide the professor with appropriate documentation from the Office of Students with Disabilities (OSD).  Furthermore, the student must sign a form stating that he or she will not release these recordings to any other person and will not use these recordings for any other purpose except as a study tool.
