Juan-Alberto Salto
¡Hola! My name is Juan-Alberto and I am one of the full-time Spanish professors at Valencia College – East Campus. I teach Elementary Spanish 1 & 2 as well as the courses for Spanish Heritage Speakers (SPN 1340 & SPN 1341). In these courses, I immerse students in the language as much as possible which includes having students make the best of class time by practicing and speaking as much Spanish as possible in the classroom. I am an enthusiastic and energetic professor who tries to make learning Spanish interesting through a variety of fun and engaging learning activities where I incorporate technology, Spanish music, games, and the culture from the various Spanish speaking countries of Latin America.
My own academic background is broad and my academic interests vary. However, before joining Valencia College as a full-time professor, I studied Hispanic Linguistics, where I specialized in Spanish phonetics, phonology, & dialectology as a PhD candidate at the University of Illinois at Chicago. I also received a Master of Arts in Teaching in Foreign Language Teaching & Secondary Education from National Louis University, a Master of Arts in Spanish Linguistics and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
